S4C News article on W H Crawford films Cymraeg 22 September 2005
The article (in Cymraeg) describes my grandfather's amateur 16mm cine films. His name was W H Crawford (or Bill) and his films show the Llanarmon-yn-ial and Llanferres areas of Denbighshire in the 1950s.
You can now see much more, and in better quality, on BFI Player, if you search by place in free content for “Llanferres” and “Llanarmon-yn-ial”.
The S4C article here includes brief interviews with both the National Screen and Sound Archive in Aberystwyth (who now look after the film), and a Llanferres resident, the now late John James Parry.
I inaugurated a community project at the time, led by Denbighshire Council Countryside Services, to interpret these films to local people, at a time wh...

Return to Amlwch by train (1992)
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Год назад
In June 1992, passenger trains briefly returned to Amlwch as part of a feasibility study into the re-opening of the line for steam trains. The 37 minute film starts with a silent cine film of Derby Lightweight DMUs on Bangor to Amlwch services in the early 1960s, just before closure to passengers. This film has appeared on the internet many times, but the following 1992 is not something I have ...

Tranquil Welsh woodland walk with spring birdsong giving way to coastal cliffs at the end. Filmed in my local area on Anglesey in quiet tranquil times during the Coronavirus pandemic of spring 2020. The film aims to give a glimpse of rural glades to all the many visitors who could not visit because of lockdown.

Wensleydale Lament - 'last' passenger train 2 January 1993
Просмотров 8385 лет назад
Despite the gloom of the day and some unfortunate camera work (and the wrong date printed onto the video!) this record of the end of the Northallerton to Redmire branch railway line was, happily, in vane, as the line later re-opened as The Wensleydale Railway - a heritage line. But on a foggy day in January 1993, no one knew this as a train of inter-city liveried Mk1 coaches topped by a pair of...

Edited 8mm analogue video showing trains at Newcastle including Class 56 coal, IC225, Pacer and Sprinter, but the main feature is a steam special trip around the Blyth and Tyne route to Bedlington and Morpeth and back. Ex hurricane Ophelia, as experienced on the Isle of Anglesey on the afternoon of 16th October 2017. The main wind and rain passed over Ireland, but in nearby Wales we still had quite a bettering - although in my case no real damage was done except to hasten the autumn leaf fall. Some time lapse sequences illustrate that we had sun as well as rain during this. The wind continued into the night.

You can always view it without sound. The real sound was a lot of wind noise so you are not missing much. With hindsight, I don’t like the music much myself. But remember that for copyright reasons my choice is bery limited.

The path is shown On the map image I attach here. Hoping this helps. Ask again if not. I might be interested in coming on the walk if it’s open to all. Please note the path goes to the cliff top and then stops. You cannot get down to the beach and need to retrace your steps again (unless of course there was a one off arrangement with a landowner).

I remembered travelling 🧭 🧳 in the2 and 3 car class 101 many previous years ago in the year 1992. I went on the train 🚊 that ran from Plymouth to Gunnislake via Bere Alston and Calstock in Devon, southwest of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 on Wednesday 1st July 1992 aged 16 years old. The train 🚆 ran past Chelfham Senior School 🏫 in Bere Alston, now called Quay View School 🏫. I have been on the class 101 and/or class 102 ran from Exeter to Barnstaple via Crediton and Eggesford. Class 101 and 102 has a toilet 🚽 🚻 and slam doors 🚪. 👍
